Candidate Robin Curry, Firestone 2-year-term

I am a life-long learner and retired educator with a passion for community service.  I grew up with a large family living in a rural, farming area in Kentucky.  I felt so fortunate to attend college and then serve over 30 years as a teacher, principal and director of school programs.  A new job opportunity brought my family to Colorado.  I love outdoor adventure, traveling, and spending time with my two very smart and inquisitive grandsons.

Currently I have memberships on my neighborhood’s social committee, St. Vrain School District’s Leadership Team, and the Red Hats social group.  In addition, I am a guest teacher for St. Vrain School District.  My family resides in a rapidly growing community.  I would love to be an advocate on the board in helping to ensure outstanding services are provided that meet the needs of our residents.

In my current role as Chief Administrative Officer at an Electric Utility and with over 30 years in human resources, bilingual proficiency, and a master’s degree in communication, I will bring a wealth of experience in people management and communication to the Carbon Valley community, where I have lived since 2002. I have previous volunteer experience with my HOA, Relay for Life, and parent teacher organizations. My passion for the outdoors and local environment drives my commitment to enhancing our parks and recreational spaces.

Reasons for Running

  • Community Well-being: Foster a healthier, vibrant community through improved parks and recreational facilities.
  • Enhancing Facilities: Ensure well-maintained, accessible parks and expand programs to meet diverse resident needs.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Advocate for eco-friendly practices and resource conservation.
  • Inclusive Participation: Provide equitable opportunities for all community members in decision-making processes.

I am eager to contribute my experience, passion, and dedication to the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation board to positively impact our residents' lives.

My wife, Judy, and I moved to Firestone from Michigan in October of 2009.  I am a retired scientist who spent my career with BASF.  At BASF I was involved with physical chemistry, polymer synthesis, and polymer physics.  I enjoy hiking, visiting with our adult children and all of the grand dogs.  Being an animal lover, I help a couple of neighbors with their pets.  I enjoy photography especially taking black & white photos. I also enjoy the Active Adults group and lead a walking group.

Shortly after arriving in Firestone we joined CVPRD.  It became apparent that the district was a great asset to the local  area.  With the rapid growth of the area, the services provided by the district will also continue to grow.  I would be very happy and excited to be a part of the team that will lead CVPRD forward.

My name is Steven Colvin and I live in the Falcon Point at Saddleback development in Firestone. I have been a Town of Firestone representative on the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District Board of Directors since May of 2023. I am running for re-election to the Board because I want to continue to help enrich Carbon Valley residents by providing diverse and exceptional citizen recreation experiences, both as a Parks and Recreation District as well as in coordination with our local communities. I am active in outdoor recreation and use the community and Carbon Valley facilities regularly. My wife and I moved to Firestone from Minnesota after retiring from a 40-year career with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, ultimately as Director of the Ecological and Water Resources Division. In my DNR roles over the years I have managed outdoor recreation, managed budgets, provided leadership to over 400 staff, offered strategic direction to the division and department, coordinated with local communities, worked with state and federal agencies and networked with local and state elected officials. I enjoy living in this area and really want to use my knowledge, experience and relationships both from my former career and from my time on the Board of Directors to contribute to its growth in something I’m passionate about: public recreation.

I was born and raised here in Colorado. I grew up in SE Denver in the Cherry Creek area. Over the years, I have migrated north and finally ended up in Firestone.

I retired 2 years ago after 45 years in Transportation, primarily in the Road Construction Industry.

My wife of over 40 years and I have 3 married boys and 4 grandchildren.

I have always liked exercising and have been on many different journeys.

My wife, son and I are former owners of a CrossFit gym located in Thornton.  Thanks to our community with the gym, it made me realize just how important fitness is for the body and soul.

I’m glad that I joined CVPRD.  This is another amazing community and I’m glad to be a part of it.

This is why I’m running for the CVPRD Board.  I would like to help the community continue to grow and provide a place for families to come together.

 Frederick 4-year-term:

Hello Carbon Valley!

It has been a pleasure to serve our community on the Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District Board. I first and ever ran because I was an avid and invested rec center patron. When I saw the opportunity advertised, knowing my love and appreciation for the rec center, it was a natural decision to invest myself in this way as well. When I was first elected to the Board, I was a volunteer coach as well as participating in fitness classes daily. Not long thereafter, I obtained a fitness certification also. Having served our recreation center in various capacities, I feel I have a unique and definitely invested commitment to all things CVPRD. We have a wonderful home here in the Carbon Valley and I have gained an education these last years, that I am happy to continue to utilize in serving the recreation center, and our communities, of Dacono, Firestone and Frederick. In voting for me, know that I am your CVPRD advocate!

Nick Smith

My name is Nick Smith, and I’m a proud resident of Frederick, Colorado, where my family and I have called home for the past six years. As an active member of the Carbon Valley community and a long-standing member of the Carbon Valley Rec Center, I’ve had the privilege of engaging in many of the local events that make this area special. From the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony to the Chainsaw Carving Festival, my family and I cherish the traditions that bring our community together.

Professionally, I serve as a project manager for a local home builder, where I work to help shape neighborhoods and create spaces for families to thrive. My background also includes serving on various boards, including HOAs and Metro Districts throughout Colorado, giving me experience in collaborative leadership, long-term planning, and community-focused development.

I’m passionate about giving back to the place that has given so much to my family. I believe in the incredible potential of the Carbon Valley area and am eager to contribute to its growth and success. My vision is to support and expand the recreational opportunities that make this district a vibrant place for all families.

I’m applying for the four-year board position with the full support of my family, who share my commitment to calling Frederick home for years to come. I would be honored to bring my experience, energy, and dedication to the Parks and Rec board and serve this community to the best of my abilities.

Thank you for your consideration.
