Lifeguard Training

Our American Red Cross lifeguard training course provides a generalized view of lifeguarding skills and practices. CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professional Rescuer and all course materials are included. As a blended learning course, a portion of the class is administered online. The in-class portion will include skills practice as well as a practical and written exam. 

Upon successful completion of the course, you will become eligible for employment at Carbon Valley Parks and Recreation District. 

Classes are typically offered during the following times:

  • Winter break (late December/early January)
  • Spring break (March)
  • Late May/early June
  • Early August
  • Thanksgiving break (November)

Fee: $85 District residents, $128 non-District residents

Prerequisites

  • 15 years of age by the last day of class
  • 300-yard continuous swim using freestyle, breaststroke or the combination of the two
  • Without goggles, swim 20 yards, dive down 12 feet, retrieve 10-pound brick and bring it back to starting point on your back with both hands on brick and face out of water (all in less than 1 minute 40 seconds)
  • 2 minutes of continuous treading water without using arms.
